Colin Powell The Ideal VP

Colin Powell for VP?SlashDot.com is reporting that former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell was selected as the “ideal VP candidate” for both John McCain and Barak Obama by a sophisticated online survey:

For both candidates, the best running mate is Colin Powell, a former U.S. Army general and former secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush, according to the survey, which was powered by an Affinnova algorithm it calls “evolutionary optimization.”

Apparently, the ongoing war in Iraq has not tarnished Powell’s credibility or his apparent trustworthiness. I’ve always admired Powell, and thought that he was thrown under the bus by the current administration in their run up to the Iraq war. It would be nice to see Powell back in a position from which he could help America regain some of its lost stature in the world community.

Get Smart at Project Vote Smart!

There are plenty of political resources around the web, and we’re working to bring the best to you here. In that spirit, take a look at Project Vote Smart, an online voter information resource that provides a wealth of voting information.

All of us realize that the mudslinging tactics once associated only with the crudest kinds of local politics now characterize virtually all campaigns and have stripped us of the most crucial component in our struggle to self-govern: access to abundant, accurate and relevant information about those who govern us and those who wish to replace those who do.

Project Vote Smart provides something they call a “Voter Self-Defense System” which can be used to investigate countless political claims made by candidates and public officials alike. The self-defense system provides voting records and biographical information for candidates, as well as
interest group ratings, public statements, information about campaign finances, and most interestingly, a “political courage test” which is a standardized questionnaire related to a candidate’s position on various important issues.

You can get to know them a little better through the Project Vote Smart introduction video:

What is a Political Moderate?

Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.
- Alan Watts

If you want to know what a liberal stands for, just ask a conservative. The same is true if you want to know what a conservative stands for. In neither case do we allow liberals or conservatives to define themselves. They have tried, to be sure, but nobody but liberals really listen to other liberals when they talk about liberalism. Similarly, conservatives tend to preach to the choir when they discuss conservative values. Through this one simple dynamic the great American political rift is perpetuated.

$104,655.60 Ad in the Washington Post

Following is an ad placed in 2004 by an individual with the money needed to fund a rebuttal to what Howard Dean, Democratic National Committee Chairman, had said earlier, that many Republicans have never done an honest day’s work in their life.

The following full page ad was placed in the Washington Post by a businessman named George J. Esseff, Sr. He paid $104,655.60 to run the ad and only did it because he is sick and tired of the way that “the rich” are portrayed by liberals these days. It is a great read.

Maybe you’re a Republican?

In today’s America ask a growing number of high school and college students, their teachers and professors, the self-anointed media elite and/or hard working men and women of all ethnicities the question, “What is a Republican?” and you’ll be told “a rich, greedy, egotistical individual, motivated only by money and the desire to accumulate more and more of it, at the expense of the environment, the working poor…and all whom they exploit…”

I am a Republican - and I am none of those things…and I don’t know any Republicans who are!

WHAT I AM first and foremost, is a loving husband of some 52 plus years, the father of four and an American who’s proud of his country, and his country’s heritage.
